MONO SYNTH IS BETTER !

By Audio Pervert - 3/20/2011

The sawtooth and square shapes are the most harmonic and bright waveforms : They can be found on almost all monophonic or polyphonic synthesizers, to create a very wide rage of sounds with a lot of "color". Yet thats not what this blog is about.

Recently i met a bunch of producers and musicians in India,  who compose and mix music on lavish systems which handle upto 70 or even 80 stereo tracks of audio and synthesis. On closer look, it appears to be a rather complex and cumbersome mix process. Also the sonic results which did not match up to the "brag". Little do these producers and nouveau cool mix engineers realize that the quality of sound and the tone being shaped by the artist is way more important than post-production or adding effects to achieve animated results. This is specific to synthesizer based electronic music such as techno, minimal, house, tech-house and related genres. There is no logic which says or even begins to prove that more tracks plus shit-tons of processing tends to make a song eventually sound better. Genres like Hardstyle, HardHouse and americanized EDM rely on massive digital processing and hyper compression of audio tracks. As result of which the eventual sound is not dynamic nor tonally interesting. Further from a purely psychological and physical view, the sound becomes very predictable and prosaic.

These two tune, as a concept have been sequenced and recorded on Ableton Live using only sounds from Doepfer Dark-Energy 1 Monosynth. Seven tracks of mono synth audio, sampled voices and two tracks of Battery drum machine form the distribution of sound & frequency in the tracks. Unmastered version. Release date - February 2010.

BOTH THE TRACKS HAVE BEEN RECORDED AND MIXED ON THE INTERNAL SOUNDCARD ON THE POWERBOOK 24bit/44kh.
